What SsangYongs typically need in Singapore
SsangYongs are practical utility vehicles built around simple, robust drivetrains. Service them on schedule and they last:
Every 10,000 km or 12 months: engine oil, filter, fluid top-ups, brakes, tyres, battery, aircon check. See our servicing intervals guide.
Aisin 6-speed ATF is the watch item: the Tivoli, Korando, and Rexton run an Aisin 6-speed automatic. ATF service every 60,000 to 80,000 km keeps it sweet. Skipping it is the most common reason for transmission complaints.
Every 40,000 to 60,000 km: cabin and engine air filters, spark plugs (G16 petrol), brake fluid, transfer case fluid on AWD Korando and Rexton. Engine and gearbox page.
Aircon and evaporator: SsangYong A/C evaporator mould is a known SG humidity issue around year 4 to 6. A proper aircon clean restores cooling and removes the smell. Aircon guide.
Tyres and battery: battery 3 to 4 years. Tyres 50,000 to 70,000 km on Tivoli; Rexton chews through tyres faster given the weight (40,000 to 50,000 km). Tyres and battery guide.
Real SsangYong faults we see most often
Tivoli and Korando G16 1.6 petrol carbon buildup: direct-injection 1.6 develops carbon on the intake valves around 70,000 km. Symptom is rough idle and lost low-end. We walnut blast the valves and the engine drives like new again.
Aisin 6-speed ATF (shared across Tivoli, Korando, Rexton): this is the watch item on every modern SsangYong. The Aisin 6-speed responds beautifully to a proper ATF service every 60,000 km with Aisin AFW+ or equivalent. Skipping it is the number one reason for transmission complaints in our humidity and traffic.
Rexton 2.2 diesel EGR and DPF: short-trip Singapore driving clogs both. We do a proper EGR clean and forced DPF regen.
Service interval: oil every 10,000 km or 12 months on petrol; 8,000 km on diesel; ATF every 60,000 km firm. Pricing tip: SsangYong’s local agent network is small and parts can be slow. We pre-order common service parts from regional suppliers and keep wait times short. Bring your SsangYong to Autobay @ Kaki Bukit, #02-61.
Yes. Genuine parts come through the Agent network; OEM-equivalent parts (filters, plugs, brake pads, ATF, coolant) are widely available with 2 to 5 day lead times.
G16 1.6 petrol uses 5W-30 full synthetic. Diesel Korando and Rexton use 5W-30 low-SAPS to SsangYong spec. We stock both.
Often it’s simply ATF that has not been changed. The Aisin 6-speed responds very well to a proper ATF service with the correct fluid (Aisin AFW+ or equivalent). We do a flush and refill, not just a drain.
Yes. We service the Rexton 2.2 diesel: oil and filter, fuel filter, EGR check, AdBlue (where fitted), AWD transfer case fluid, brakes.
No. Singapore’s Block Exemption Order protects you. Correct fluids, OEM-equivalent parts, and stamped records keep your warranty intact.
