Why it matters

Modern cars have more electronics than ever, and Singapore weather is hard on every one

An intermittent electrical fault is easy to ignore until it strands you. Most electrical symptoms trace back to a sensor, a relay, a corroded ground point or an ECU fault stored in the OBD log. We read the live data, trace the fault, and write up what we find. Then you decide what to fix.

Warning light keeps coming back

Engine, ABS, airbag, traction. Clearing the code is not the fix. We read live data and trace the fault to its source before resetting anything.

Random glitches after a wet drive

Singapore humidity finds every corroded connector. We hunt water-ingress points, clean and re-grease the grounds, then re-test the system before signing off.

Battery dies overnight even when nothing is on

Parasitic drain. We measure current at the negative terminal with a clamp meter and isolate the circuit one fuse at a time, until the culprit shows up.

Headlights, indicators or interior lights flicker

Bad earth, a failing relay or worn wiring at a flex point (door, bonnet, boot). We test each circuit, photograph the fault, and report what to replace.

What we check

A proper electrical check, in plain English

Six areas, every visit. We connect a proper diagnostic scanner, read live data at each module, and write up what we find. No guess-work and no parts thrown at the problem.

Diagnostic scan

  • Full ECU scan across engine, transmission, ABS, airbag, BCM and comfort modules
  • Stored and pending fault codes documented with freeze-frame data
  • Live data captured for sensors flagged by the scanner
  • Multi-brand support including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo and Asian makes
  • Findings written into your electrical report, plain English

Battery and charging

  • Resting voltage and state-of-charge measured at the terminals
  • Cranking voltage drop tested under starter load
  • Alternator output verified across idle and elevated RPM
  • Parasitic drain measured at the negative terminal with a clamp meter
  • Singapore heat shortens battery life, so we report remaining service window honestly

Sensors and actuators

  • Live sensor readings cross-checked against manufacturer reference values
  • Out-of-range sensors isolated and traced back to source
  • Actuator commands tested where safe (cooling fan, throttle body, ignition coils)
  • Photos of any visible sensor damage or wiring chafing

Wiring and connectors

  • Visual check at flex points: doors, bonnet hinge, boot, engine bay loom
  • Splice taps, bullet connectors and OEM plugs inspected for corrosion
  • Ground points cleaned and re-tested where weak
  • Water-ingress entry points hunted (a real Singapore problem)

Lighting and signals

  • Headlight, fog, indicator, brake, reverse and interior lights all tested
  • Bulb, fuse, relay and switch isolated when a circuit fails
  • Headlight aim and beam pattern checked where complaints exist
  • Adaptive and matrix LED systems supported on equipped models

Comfort and safety electronics

  • Aircon controls, central locking, power windows, mirrors verified
  • ABS, airbag, traction control and parking sensors tested
  • Key fob range and door receiver tested if intermittent
  • Plain-English written summary, with photos of anything we flagged

How we differ

The Right Workshop vs an authorised dealer

Both will fix your electrical fault. The way the visit goes, and what you walk out with, is not the same. Here is how the two compare on the things that matter when you book.

What you get The Right Workshop Authorised dealer
Bay access You can step into the bay and watch us work on your car. Customer lounge only, no bay access.
Quote breakdown Itemised line by line, with photos of the actual fault before any work starts. Service-package pricing with bundled items.
Parts options OEM, OE-equivalent or aftermarket. You pick, we advise. Manufacturer parts only.
Wait time Same-week slots. Most electrical diagnostics done in 1 to 2 hours. Often 1 to 3 weeks lead time.
Who you talk to The mechanic working on your car, on WhatsApp. A service advisor, not the technician.
Pickup and drop-off Available islandwide. Tell us where, we plan it in. Often not available, or limited to nearby pickup.
Continuity Same workshop, same mechanic remembers your car next time. A different service advisor on most visits.
Post-service follow-up A WhatsApp check-in 2 weeks later to make sure everything is running well. Survey email, then silence.

The Block Exemption Order (BEO) protects your right to service at any qualified workshop without voiding your manufacturer warranty. Read more.

Our promise

Honest work. No upsell.

Diagnose first, quote after

Every visit starts with a diagnostic check. You see the readings and the photos. Then we talk about what to do next.

We won’t push parts you don’t need

If a cabin filter clean fixes it, we say so. The report tells you what is urgent and what can wait, with no pressure to add anything.

Plain-English written report

Photos of anything we flagged. Useful if you want a second opinion, or if you come back six months later and want the record.

FAQ

Wiring & electrical, your questions answered

Why won’t my warning light go away after I clear the code?

Clearing the code does not fix the fault, only the warning. The car re-tests on the next drive cycle, and if the underlying fault is still there, the light returns. We read live data to find the actual fault before clearing.

My engine light came on after the rain. Should I worry?

Often water has bridged a connector or shorted a sensor. The code may clear once dry, but the corrosion stays and will come back. We hunt the entry point, clean the contacts, and re-test before signing off.

Can a parasitic drain kill my battery overnight?

Yes. A 50 mA constant draw over 12 hours can leave you stranded. We measure with a clamp meter on the negative terminal and pull fuses one at a time to isolate the circuit, then trace the component drawing current.

Do you handle BMW, Mercedes and other European electronics?

Yes. We use multi-brand scanners that cover BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Porsche and more. Brand-specific procedures (battery registration, throttle adaptation, key coding) are followed where required.

My headlights flicker at idle but stop when I rev. What is wrong?

Usually low alternator output at idle, or a poor ground connection at the headlight. We test alternator output under load, check ground continuity, and isolate the weak link. A failing alternator often shows up here first.

Why does my key fob sometimes fail to unlock the door?

Could be a low fob battery, a worn receiver in the door handle, an antenna fault, or a programming desync after a battery change. We test each in turn and reprogram if needed.

How long does an electrical diagnostic take?

Usually 1 to 2 hours for a full diagnostic plus written report. Intermittent faults can take longer because we need the symptom to reappear under controlled conditions. We tell you the time estimate before starting.

Do you do ECU coding and reprogramming?

Yes for supported brands. Coding for replacement parts (battery registration, throttle body adaptation, sensor calibration) is included where the work needs it. We tell you upfront if a job needs OE coding we cannot do in-house.

Can I bring my own replacement part for an electrical repair?

Yes. We inspect the part first to confirm it fits and is the right spec. Labour is the same charge. If your part fails early, the warranty sits with the supplier, not us. We will say so if a different part will work better.

Will electrical work at TRW void my manufacturer warranty?

No, not for cars covered under the Singapore Block Exemption Order (BEO). You can service or repair at any qualified workshop without losing the manufacturer warranty, as long as compatible parts are used and manufacturer procedures are followed. We do both.

What car brands do you service for electrical work?

All brands sold in Singapore. Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Porsche, Lexus, Hyundai, Kia, MINI and more. Our scanners cover all of them.

Do you offer pickup and drop-off service?

Yes. Tell us at least 2 days in advance so we can schedule a driver. From $35 per trip depending on pickup location and distance.
