Why it matters

Why servicing matters in Singapore

Singapore conditions are hard on cars. Traffic jams, heat, humidity and short trips all accelerate wear. A simple service with engine oil change and a proper 21-point check can catch problems before they turn into a $4,000 repair bill.

Engine oil degrades faster here

Heat, short trips and stop-start traffic cause engine oil to break down quicker than the manual suggests. 10,000 km intervals in SG often mean oil that is past its prime.

Small issues become big bills

A coolant pipe leak caught at servicing is a $80 fix. Caught at the side of the expressway, it is a tow plus radiator plus cylinder head. Most failures whisper before they shout.

The 21-point check is doing real work

Brakes, fluids, belts, tyres, battery, lights. One missed worn belt can total an engine. The check is cheap insurance.

Service records protect resale value

A stamped service book from a reputable workshop carries the same weight as an authorised centre history at trade-in and private sale. Buyers verify it. A clean, consistent record holds value.

How we differ

The Right Workshop vs an authorised dealer

Both will service your car. The way the visit goes, what you walk out with, and what you pay are not the same. Here is how the two compare on what matters when you book.

What you get The Right Workshop Authorised dealer
Pricing Fixed quote upfront. You see the parts, the labour, the tax. No surprises. Standard dealer rates. Often more than you expect.
Diagnostics approach Look at the car, find the problem, tell you. Skip the parts not needed. Workshop manual list. Replace whatever the manual says, even if it is still good.
Parts OEM or quality alternatives. Your call after we explain the trade-off. OEM only, full price.
Loyalty rewards We remember your car and you. Repeat customer means better treatment. You are a service order number.
Time per visit Booked slot. In and out. We do not double book. Drop off at 8 a.m., maybe ready by 6.
Warranty implications Block Exemption Order means independent servicing is fine. We document it properly. Same warranty, paying more for a sticker.
Honesty on what is needed “You don’t need that yet” is a sentence we say often. Every visit has upsells.
Communication Direct line to the mechanic working on your car. Photos and explanations on WhatsApp. Service advisor relays a summary, two layers from the actual mechanic.

The Block Exemption Order (BEO) means servicing your car at an independent workshop does NOT void your manufacturer warranty. As long as we use parts of equivalent quality and document the work, your warranty is intact. Singapore adopted the BEO from EU competition law, and reputable independent workshops have been operating under it for years. Bring us your service book, we stamp and sign it like any authorised centre. Read more.

Our promise

Honest work. No upsell.

Honest work

We tell you what your car needs and what it does not. If your brake pads have 30% left, we will mark it for next visit, not bill you today.

No surprise bills

The quote you accept is the price you pay. If something unexpected comes up mid-job, we stop, call you, and explain before doing more work.

Same hands every visit

You drop the car off with the mechanic working on it, not a service advisor. Repeat work means we already know your car history.

FAQ

Car servicing, your questions answered

How often should I service my car in Singapore?

Every 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first. Heavy traffic and short trips wear oil faster than highway use, so do not push past it.

What’s included in a 21-point inspection?

Engine oil and filter, brake pads and discs, brake fluid, coolant, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, battery test, tyre tread and pressure, all belts, all hoses, lighting, wipers and washer, suspension components, exhaust, undercarriage, leaks check, dashboard warning lights scan.

Will servicing at TRW void my warranty?

No. The Block Exemption Order makes independent servicing perfectly valid for warranty as long as we use equivalent parts and document properly. We stamp your service book the same way an authorised centre would.

How long does a standard service take?

45 to 60 minutes for a routine oil and 21-point. We book one car per slot so you are not waiting behind 10 others.

What engine oil do you use?

Whichever weight your manufacturer specifies (5W-30, 5W-40, 0W-20 etc) in fully synthetic from brands we trust. Tell us your model and year, we will confirm the exact spec.

Do I need to change my oil filter every service?

Yes, every oil change. The filter holds debris from the previous interval. Reusing it puts contaminated oil into clean fluid from minute one.

Can you service hybrid or EV cars?

Yes. Hybrids still need engine oil, brake fluid, coolant. EVs need brake fluid, coolant, tyre rotation, cabin filter, brake check. Tell us your model when you book.

Do you offer loaner cars?

Not on every visit, but if your car needs to stay overnight we will arrange a loaner where possible. Confirm with us at booking.

Will you tell me what doesn’t need replacing?

Yes, that is the policy. If your brake fluid is two years old but still passes the moisture test, we tell you it is fine for another 6 months. We would rather see you back than over-bill once.

What payment methods do you accept?

PayNow, bank transfer, cash. We do not take credit card to keep prices clean. Receipts are emailed.

Can I bring my own oil and parts?

Yes if it is quality stock and we have agreed on it. We will quote labour-only and not be responsible for warranty on parts you supply.

How do I know your inspection is real and not just rubber-stamped?

Photos. Every visit, the mechanic sends WhatsApp photos of anything flagged. You see the worn belt, the cracked boot, the dirty filter. Nothing is theoretical.
