When should you change your tyres?

Legal minimum tread depth in Singapore is 1.6 mm, but tyres start losing wet grip from 3 mm down. Wait until 1.6 mm and you are driving on borrowed safety, especially during heavy monsoon rain. Warning signs:

• Tread wear indicators flush with the tread surface
• Cracks on the sidewall from UV and heat exposure
• Bulges or bubbles, do not drive on these, change immediately
• Uneven wear, usually means alignment is off
• Tyre age over 5 years, rubber hardens and grip drops even with good tread left

How to tell your car battery is dying

• Engine cranks slowly when starting in the morning
• Dashboard lights flicker or dim when idling at a red light
• Battery warning light stays on after the engine starts
• Battery is more than 3 years old. SG heat is hard on batteries
• Car only starts after a jump-start

Most SG car batteries last 2 to 3 years. If yours is older and you have a weekend road trip to JB coming up, get it tested first. A 15-minute test at our workshop beats a 3-hour roadside drama.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does tyre replacement take?

Four tyres with alignment and balancing takes about 1 hour. Two tyres without alignment is about 30 to 45 minutes.

Do I need to replace all 4 tyres at once?

Not always. For non-AWD cars, replacing 2 at a time is fine, but the new tyres should go on the rear axle for safety. For AWD cars, we strongly recommend replacing all 4 to avoid drivetrain damage.

How often should I do wheel alignment?

Every time you change tyres, or if you hit a nasty pothole. SG roads are mostly smooth, but a few hard kerb bumps and ERP gantry construction patches will knock your alignment out.

My battery keeps dying. Is it the battery or the alternator?

Hard to tell without a proper test. We do a full charging system check, battery, alternator and parasitic draw, to pinpoint the cause. Usually takes around 20 minutes.

What car battery brand do you recommend?

Depends on your car and budget. For daily drivers, Amaron and Bosch offer good value. For start-stop cars, we use the correct EFB or AGM battery specified by your manufacturer. We will match the right battery to your car.
