What Nissans typically need

Service intervals, no fluff

Nissans are dependable but the Jatco CVT and the MR16DDT timing chain on Qashqai need attention at the right intervals to avoid expensive repairs.

10,000 km · 12 months
Engine oil and filter (0W-20 or 5W-30 depending on model) · brake inspection · fluid top-ups · tyre check · battery health
40,000-60,000 km · CVT
Jatco CVT fluid change. Nissan recommends 60k but Singapore stop-go heat is harder on CVT fluid than the test cycle assumes. We do it at 40-60k depending on driving pattern.
60,000 km
Spark plugs · cabin and engine air filters · brake fluid flush · coolant check · timing chain inspection on Qashqai MR16DDT
GT-R service
The R35 GT-R requires premium 5W-50 engine oil, dedicated GR6 transaxle fluid, and front differential fluid. Service is every 12 months regardless of mileage.

Real faults we see

Common Nissan issues in Singapore

Jatco CVT overheating · Sylphy, Qashqai, X-Trail

The most common Nissan fault we see. Singapore stop-go traffic overheats the CVT fluid faster than Nissan’s maintenance schedule assumes. Deferred fluid change leads to belt slip, shudder, and eventually CVT replacement. Change at 40k.

MR16DDT timing chain · Qashqai (2014-2019)

The 1.6 DIG-T turbocharged Qashqai had a known timing chain tensioner issue. Cold-start rattle is the sign. We inspect tensioner condition and replace chains that show stretch or guide wear.

HR16 engine mount wear · Sylphy

Engine mounts on the Sylphy wear and cause vibration through the cabin, especially at idle in Drive. A cheap replacement that makes a big difference to driving feel.

GT-R gearbox overheat · GR6 transaxle

The R35 GT-R transaxle runs extremely hot under hard use. Track use requires a proper GR6 fluid service and transaxle cooler check before each session.

Leaf 12V battery drain

Like all EVs, the Leaf’s 12V auxiliary battery is separate from the traction pack. A failing 12V prevents the car from powering up even with full charge. Annual load test.

Questions

Nissan owner questions, answered

Do you service the Nissan GT-R?
Yes. We service the R35 GT-R including engine oil changes with the correct 5W-50 spec, GR6 transaxle fluid, front differential fluid, and full inspection. GT-R service is every 12 months regardless of mileage.
What CVT fluid does a Nissan need?
Genuine Nissan NS-3 or NS-2 CVT fluid depending on the generation. We don’t use generic substitutes. Using the wrong fluid damages the belt-and-pulley system.
Will servicing at The Right Workshop void my Nissan warranty?
No. Under Singapore’s Block Exemption Order, independent servicing with correct fluids and parts doesn’t void your warranty.
My Nissan CVT shudders at low speed. Is it serious?
It depends on mileage and when the fluid was last changed. Shudder from new CVT fluid means the belt is worn, that’s a repair job. Shudder with overdue fluid sometimes clears with a fluid change. We inspect before advising.
How long does a Nissan service take?
Standard oil-and-filter service 1-1.5 hours. Full service with CVT fluid 2.5-3 hours.
