SkyActiv engines are efficient and well-designed. The GDI direct injection means intake valve carbon needs attention, and the 6-speed auto benefits from a fluid change at 60k.
Real faults we see
GDI direct injection means no fuel wash on intake valves. Carbon builds up by 60-80k km. Rough idle and hesitation under load are the signs. Walnut blasting clears it cleanly.
The 6-speed torque converter auto develops hesitation and flare on upshifts when fluid is overdue. A drain-and-fill with correct Mazda ATF M-V fluid resolves most cases.
The ND MX-5’s soft top roof seal can develop a slow drip at the front corners with age. Early sealing treatment and correct clip checks prevent water ingress.
The 13B rotary needs correct oil (low-ash 10W-40) and correct premix. Apex seal failure is the signature fault; it burns oil by design. We advise on correct running procedure before any work.
The 2.3 MZR-DISI turbocharged CX-7 develops oil return line blockage that causes turbo oil seal failure. Regular clean-up intervals and correct oil spec prevent this.
