What BYDs typically need in Singapore
BYDs are simpler to maintain than ICE cars but they are not zero-maintenance. The EV pattern in SG is predictable, and BYDs have a few specific items to watch:
Every 10,000 km or 12 months: tyre rotation, brake inspection (regen means pads last longer but rotors can corrode), cabin filter, 12V battery test, software check, fluid top-ups (washer, brake fluid). See our servicing page.
12V auxiliary battery is the BYD watch item: Vantage Atto 3 owners often replace the small 12V AGM at year 2 in SG short-trip use, even though the HV battery is fine. We test and replace with the correct OEM-spec or upgraded AGM.
Every 40,000 to 60,000 km: brake fluid (every 2 years), cabin filter, HV coolant level check (we don’t flush; we top up and check pH), tyre alignment.
Brakes: EV brakes last longer thanks to regen, but in SG humidity rotors can rust on the inner face from underuse. We do a “brake stretch” service: a controlled friction-braking session and a careful rotor clean.
Tyres and cabin: BYDs are heavy and run on relatively soft compound (Atlas Batman OE on Atto 3); expect 30,000 to 40,000 km per set with rotation. Cabin filter every 12 months in SG. Tyres and battery guide.
We do basic HV diagnostics (state of charge, state of health via OBD), but deep HV battery work, drive-unit replacement, or pack repair goes to a specialist EV partner we trust. Routine work, 12V battery, brakes, tyres, cabin filter, software, we handle in-house.
No. Singapore’s Block Exemption Order protects you. We do not touch the HV battery or drive unit (those go through Vantage). For everything else, OEM-equivalent parts and stamped records keep your warranty intact.
Unfortunately yes for SG short-trip use. The Atto 3’s small AGM 12V drains under always-on telematics. We replace with a correct OEM-spec AGM or an uprated unit, and check parasitic draw.
BYD recommends every 20,000 km or 12 months for routine work. We recommend a check at 10,000 km / 12 months in SG given humidity and short-trip patterns. Brake fluid every 2 years is a hard rule.
