What BYDs typically need

Service intervals, no fluff

EVs need much less frequent servicing than petrol cars but they’re not zero-maintenance. Annual brake fluid checks, 12V battery load tests, and tyre rotations keep them reliable.

Annual · 12 months
Brake fluid check · 12V auxiliary battery load test · tyre rotation and condition check · brake caliper inspection · cabin air filter
2-3 years
Coolant flush (EV thermal management system) · brake fluid replacement · HVAC filter · full system diagnostic scan
Tyres & Battery
BYD’s larger models use wide-profile performance tyres. Rotation every 15-20k km extends lifespan. The 12V auxiliary battery typically lasts 3-4 years. Load test annually.
Brakes
Regenerative braking means brake pads last much longer than ICE cars. But the rotors can develop surface rust from sitting. We inspect at every service.

Real faults we see

Common BYD issues in Singapore

12V auxiliary battery drain

Like all EVs, the 12V system is separate from the traction battery. It powers the computer systems and contactors. A failing 12V battery leaves the car unable to power on even with a full charge. Load test it annually.

Software update delays

Some BYD features and fault codes require OTA software updates. We run a full diagnostic scan to identify any pending updates or logged fault codes before advising on repairs.

Charging port connection wear

Frequent DC fast charging can cause connector wear over time. We inspect the port and locking mechanism at service.

Brake disc surface rust

Low brake usage due to regen braking means rotors can develop surface rust, especially when parked for extended periods. Light rust clears with use, but significant pitting requires rotor replacement.

TPMS sensor recalibration

BYD TPMS systems occasionally need recalibration after tyre changes. We recalibrate as standard after every tyre swap.

Questions

BYD owner questions, answered

Do you service BYD EVs including the high-voltage battery?
We handle all BYD maintenance outside of the high-voltage traction battery pack, which requires factory authorisation. This covers 12V systems, brakes, tyres, cooling, cabin systems, and general maintenance. For traction battery issues, we diagnose the fault code and advise on next steps.
How often does a BYD EV need servicing?
EVs need much less frequent servicing than petrol cars, but they’re not zero-maintenance. Annual brake fluid checks, 12V battery load tests, tyre rotations, and coolant flushes every 2-3 years keep the car in good condition.
Will servicing at The Right Workshop void my BYD warranty?
No. Under Singapore’s Block Exemption Order, independent workshop servicing with correct procedures and parts doesn’t void your warranty. We document everything.
Do you handle BYD PHEVs?
Yes. We service the Tang PHEV and Song Plus PHEV, including the petrol engine, transmission, and the 12V system. For the high-voltage PHEV battery specifically, we advise on faults and refer to the authorised service centre where required.
How long does a BYD service take?
Standard annual EV service 1.5-2 hours. We confirm timing when you book.
