The honest version of the verdict

There is no golden year. There are kept cars and tired ones.

Every year guide wants to hand you a tidy verdict, three years in red and three in green. The XC60 refuses to cooperate. Its one genuinely documented defect window, the 2015 and 2016 oil consumption cars, was closed by an engine number rather than a birthday. And its second generation faults arrive on a clock set by years of ownership, not by the year on the log card.

That cuts in both directions. A 2015 that passed a measured oil test, or already had pistons and rings done, is a better keep than a later car with a vague history.
