Why it matters

Stop-start traffic and Singapore bumps wear brakes faster than the manual assumes

A worn pad does not just squeal. It eats your rotor, lengthens stopping distance, and gets worse fast in slow traffic. Most brake symptoms trace back to pad thickness, rotor surface, caliper drag or tired suspension. We check, photograph and report on each one, then quote any work you may want to follow up with.

Squeal or grind when you press the pedal

Pad material is wearing thin or the friction surface is contaminated. We measure pad thickness in millimetres and photograph the rotor surface for the report.

Pulsing or vibration through the pedal

Usually rotor warp or uneven thickness from heat cycling. We measure runout and remaining material before recommending skim or replacement.

Car pulls to one side under braking

Caliper drag, seized slider pin or uneven pad wear left versus right. We test both sides at the wheel hub before quoting any caliper work.

Soft or knocking suspension over speed bumps

Shock absorbers losing damping, worn bushes or tired strut mounts. We bounce-test, hold-test, and quote what is actually needed, not the whole corner.

What we check

A proper brake and suspension check, in plain English

Six areas, every visit. Every check finishes with a written report so you know exactly what is going on with your brakes and suspension, and what (if anything) we recommend doing about it.

Brake pads

  • Front and rear pad thickness measured with a brake pad gauge, recorded in millimetres
  • Inner versus outer pad wear pattern noted (uneven wear flags caliper drag)
  • Wear sensor condition and friction-material left to backing plate ratio
  • Photos of each pad face included in your report
  • Manufacturer minimum-thickness reference cited next to your reading

Brake rotors

  • Surface scoring, lip wear and heat-discolouration checked at each corner
  • Rotor thickness measured against manufacturer minimum spec
  • Runout (lateral wobble) measured with a dial indicator
  • Skim-or-replace recommendation based on remaining material above minimum
  • Photos of any cracks, hot-spots or warping included

Calipers and sliders

  • Slider pin movement and grease condition tested
  • Piston retract behaviour after pedal release
  • Parking-brake mechanism operation (where caliper-integrated)
  • Visual check for fluid weeping at piston seals
  • Caliper drag is what wears one side faster than the other

Brake fluid

  • Boil point and moisture content tested with a refractometer
  • Reservoir level and visible contamination noted
  • Replacement interval verified against manufacturer schedule
  • Singapore humidity destroys brake fluid faster than the manual assumes
  • Findings written into your brake report

Shocks and struts

  • Bounce test at each corner to assess damping response
  • Visible oil weeping at the seal documented and photographed
  • Bump-stop condition and spring perch alignment checked
  • Strut top mount play and bearing condition inspected
  • Worn shocks lengthen stopping distance, especially under emergency braking

Bushes, arms and mounts

  • Suspension bushes inspected for cracking, splitting or oil swell
  • Lower arm ball joints checked for play
  • Anti-roll bar links and bushes assessed
  • Worn bushes can mimic a soft shock, so we check them first
  • Plain-English written summary, not workshop jargon

How we differ

The Right Workshop vs an authorised dealer

Both will fix your brakes. The way the visit goes, and what you walk out with, is not the same. Here is how the two compare on the things that matter when you book.

What you get The Right Workshop Authorised dealer
Bay access You can step into the bay and watch us work on your car. Customer lounge only, no bay access.
Quote breakdown Itemised line by line, with photos of the actual fault before any work starts. Service-package pricing with bundled items.
Parts options OEM, OE-equivalent or aftermarket. You pick, we advise. Manufacturer parts only.
Wait time Same-week slots. Most brake checks done in 1 to 2 hours. Often 1 to 3 weeks lead time.
Who you talk to The mechanic working on your car, on WhatsApp. A service advisor, not the technician.
Pickup and drop-off Available islandwide. Tell us where, we plan it in. Often not available, or limited to nearby pickup.
Continuity Same workshop, same mechanic remembers your car next time. A different service advisor on most visits.
Post-service follow-up A WhatsApp check-in 2 weeks later to make sure everything is running well. Survey email, then silence.

The Block Exemption Order (BEO) protects your right to service at any qualified workshop without voiding your manufacturer warranty. Read more.

Our promise

Honest work. No upsell.

Diagnose first, quote after

Every visit starts with a diagnostic check. You see the readings and the photos. Then we talk about what to do next.

We won’t push parts you don’t need

If a cabin filter clean fixes it, we say so. The report tells you what is urgent and what can wait, with no pressure to add anything.

Plain-English written report

Photos of anything we flagged. Useful if you want a second opinion, or if you come back six months later and want the record.

FAQ

Brakes & suspension, your questions answered

How often should I change brake pads in Singapore?

Around every 30,000 to 60,000 km depending on driving style and traffic. Daily Kaki Bukit to CBD means more stop-start, which wears pads faster. We measure at every service so you only change when you actually need to.

Do I need to change pads and rotors at the same time?

Not always. If the rotor is above minimum thickness and not scored, we change just the pads. We measure first and show you the readings, photos of the rotor surface, and the manufacturer minimum spec. Then you decide.

My brakes squeal only in the rain. Is that a problem?

Glazed pads or surface-rusted rotors squeal specifically when wet. If the noise clears once the pads warm up and dry, it is often a surface condition, not worn pads. Persistent squeal needs an inspection though, and we will tell you what we find.

Why does my car pull to one side under braking?

Usually caliper drag on one side, a stuck slider pin, or uneven pad wear. We test both sides at the wheel hub and replace pads in axle pairs to prevent it. Single-side pad replacement is what causes this in the first place.

What is the minimum legal pad thickness?

Manufacturer specs vary by model, but 3 mm is the common workshop threshold for replacement. Below 2 mm you are running close to the backing plate. We measure each pad and note it on the report so you know exactly where you stand.

Do I need new shock absorbers if my car bounces over bumps?

Maybe. Shocks typically last 80,000 to 120,000 km. We do a bounce test at each corner, check for oil weeping at the seal, and only quote replacement if needed. Worn bushes can mimic a soft shock, so we check those first.

Can shocks fail without leaking oil?

Yes. Internal valving wears down before any oil shows externally. The bounce test catches it. We hold-test each corner under load before recommending replacement.

How long does a brake job take?

Front pad and rotor change is usually 1 to 2 hours. Suspension work can be half-day to full-day depending on what is involved. We give you the time estimate before we start, and WhatsApp you when your car is ready.

Can I use aftermarket pads instead of OEM?

Yes. We stock OEM, OE-equivalent and reputable aftermarket pads. We tell you the trade-offs (cost, dust, noise, stopping power) before you decide. For most Singapore daily drivers, OE-equivalent gives the right balance.

Will brake work at TRW void my manufacturer warranty?

No, not for cars covered under the Singapore Block Exemption Order (BEO). You can service or repair at any qualified workshop without losing the manufacturer warranty, as long as compatible parts are used and manufacturer procedures are followed. We do both.

What car brands do you service for brakes and suspension?

All brands sold in Singapore. Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Porsche, Lexus, Hyundai, Kia, MINI and more. Our scanners cover all of them, and we stock pads and rotors for the popular models.

Do you offer pickup and drop-off service?

Yes. Tell us at least 2 days in advance so we can schedule a driver. From $35 per trip depending on pickup location and distance.
