What Mercedes-Benz models typically need

Service intervals, no fluff

Mercedes models need spec-correct oil and proper 7G/9G-Tronic service intervals. The direct injection carbon buildup and air suspension on GLE/GLS are the two areas worth regular attention.

15,000 km · 12 months
Engine oil and filter (Mercedes MB 229.5 or 229.51 spec) · brake inspection · fluid top-ups · tyre check · battery health · Service A or B per ASSYST
40,000-60,000 km · 7G/9G-Tronic
Automatic transmission fluid change. Mercedes calls it sealed-for-life but it degrades. Hesitation, harsh upshifts, and converter shudder follow overdue fluid on 7G and 9G units.
60,000 km
Spark plugs · cabin and engine air filters · brake fluid flush · air suspension check on GLE, GLS · coolant check
Tyres & Battery
Mercedes fitments vary from run-flat to standard. AGM or EFB batteries are standard from 2010 onwards. Replacement must match the spec, not just the size.

Real faults we see

Common Mercedes-Benz issues in Singapore

M274 timing chain · C 200, C 250, E 200 (2011-2018)

The M274 1.6 and 2.0 four-cylinder had timing chain tensioner issues, particularly in early production years. Cold-start rattle and check engine light are the signs. Fix before the chain jumps.

7G-Tronic harsh shifts

The 7G-Tronic develops harsh upshifts and hesitation at low speed when fluid is overdue or the valve body wears. Fluid change resolves most cases; valve body replacement for more serious wear.

M274 GDI carbon buildup

Direct injection means intake valve carbon deposits by 60-80k km on C-Class and E-Class four-cylinders. Walnut blasting clears it. Symptoms: rough idle and sluggish throttle response.

AIRMATIC air suspension fault · E-Class, GLE, S-Class

Air strut leaks and compressor failure on AIRMATIC-equipped Mercedes. Compressor replacement is the most common job we do on older E-Class wagons and GLE models.

Coolant leak · M272 and M273 V6/V8 balance shaft

Older V6 and V8 Mercedes develop coolant leaks from balance shaft seals and the plastic coolant distribution pipes. Pressure test locates the source before it leads to overheating.

Questions

Mercedes-Benz owner questions, answered

Do you service AMG models?
Yes. We service AMG models including A 35, A 45, C 43, C 63, E 53, and GLC 63. AMG variants have different oil specs, shorter service intervals, and in some cases dual-clutch gearboxes. We confirm the correct schedule for your specific AMG model.
What transmission fluid does a 7G-Tronic need?
Genuine MB 236.12 or 236.14 fluid depending on the unit. We don’t use generic ATF substitutes on Mercedes 7G or 9G transmissions.
Will servicing at The Right Workshop void my Mercedes warranty?
No. Under Singapore’s Block Exemption Order, independent servicing with correct fluids and OEM-equivalent parts doesn’t void your warranty. We document everything.
My Mercedes ASSYST shows Service A or B. What does that mean?
Service A is an oil change with inspection items. Service B includes oil, filters, brake fluid, and a more thorough inspection. We read the exact items from your ASSYST system and complete every line.
How long does a Mercedes service take?
Service A: 1.5-2 hours. Service B: 2.5-3 hours. Full service with 7G fluid and inspection: 3 hours.
